The lack of sleep over the last few days is starting to catch up with me. I would take a nap but I have welcome ceremony at 3 and then my first class meeting at 4:20 and then welcome dinner at 6. And hopefully skype after that.
So, the dorms that we are in are pretty small but nothing too crazy. There's a bathroom in the rooms which is nice - no community bathroom=happy Rose :]. I took a couple of pictures with my phone but don't have the energy to mess with all of that right now.
The medical was stupid - as expected. We went in, they handed us out forms, we had to fill out general medical history, during which I lied through my teeth - noo, I have no back, neck, hip, knee, etc problems. Not me. haha Then we went up and they took our height and weight, then to eye exam (he thought it was funny that I guessed at the ones I couldn't really see and got them wrong haha), then hearing test, blood pressure and color blindness check, then they drew blood - the nurse couldn't find a vein in either arm so I had to switch and see the doc instead, luckily he only stuck me once and did a good job, I was impressed. I was afraid that after doing it all day, especially since I was in the last group, that he would be tired of doing it and just jab me til he got a vein :/ Seems silly I know but it's things like that that I worry about, then to the "Counselor" who looked over everything and made sure it was good, and who decided to inform me "good general health, good blood pressure, good eyes, good hearing, good height, ...(pause while looking at weight, looks up at me, looks down, looks back up) not good. You know? Not good. You know what it should be?" (at which point I am embarrassed and irritated, because hello, like I don't know I need to lose weight...) "Yeah, I know, it should be less" "But you know what?" ( I think he was asking me if I knew what the number should have been so I guessed, apparently I was wrong, please keep in mind that everything is in kg) "80kg?" "40kg" .... I guess maybe he was saying I should lose 40 kg? That would be too much. I certainly shouldn't weigh 40 kg haha. My crazy bimbo roommate weighs 42kg and she's only 4'10" Yeah, let me chop off my arms and legs and be just a skeleton and then maybe I'll weigh that much. Dumb. So anyway, then we went down and they gave us a snack and juicebox, rested, devoured the food, then did the urine screening, and finally out to chest xray for which they made me take off my bra... I walked in and the girl asked me if I was wearing one and I almost laughed, but didn't, said yes and she replies, "Take opf, take opf" pointing to a little room in which I was apparently supposed to "take opf" my bra that doesn't even have metal underwire. Silly. Anyway, overall pretty painless. Just the nitty gritty basics I suppose.
Then my roommate and some friends and I went and got lunch in the cafeteria. They had kimchi, spaghetti, steamed white rice, cooked veggies, pork brisquit(sp?), beef potroast, clear soup which I can't remember the name of and I remember there being something else on the table but can't remember what. They also had a vegetarian table which I did not explore, and fruit punch tea drink and watermelon slices for dessert. Utensil options were fork, spoon, and metal chopsticks. I got a pair of chopsticks and a fork just in case, kimchi, spaghetti, rice, veggies, potroast, and watermelon. The kimchi was good but too spicy to eat more than a piece or two, there was some kind of red seasoning on it - verrrrry spicy (similar to what was on my korean style fish on the plane that I scraped off before enjoying the fish), also, the kimchi was served cold. I expected it to be hot, though not really sure why. Also, not sure if hot is an option or if it is always cold. The spaghetti was super delicious, rice and veggies were very good and beef potroast was also excellent. Overall a very successful lunch :] Oh, and thank you delicious Chinese food for teaching me to master chopsticks. I even ate the spaghetti with them!! And didn't drop anything once or have to use my fork at all. Yay :D
Then we were going to go for a walk and go exploring and whatnot but ended up going back to our rooms instead and now I'm here, getting ready to finish this so I can take a quick power nap before the welcome ceremony and the rest of my day.
It's starting to hit me a little bit now with the food and everything. I know it will sink in more once I get in my apartment and have my job and everything all set up. Right now I sort of feel like I'm on some kind of extended vacation or crazy fieldtrip or something.
Boo, no time for a nap - off to the welcome ceremony!
PS - Someone please take out my spine. Boo :[
